“Addams Family” is a Must See
Monarch Thespians do an outstanding job with spring musical
We all have family problems, but most families don’t have a torture chamber in their basement or a monster for a butler. For as unreadable as this situation may seem, the Monarch thespians brought it to life in the spring musical Addams Family starring Solomon Abell as Gomez and Sydney McDonald as Morticia.
In this dead funny comedy the ideas of family, duty, and love are explored as a romance between Lucas, played by Harry Abel, and Wednesday, played by Claire McConville, comes to light and threatens to tear two very different families apart. This musical touches the heart as well as sending the audience into stitches with laughter.
Abell’s performance as Gomez is especially a standout as he holds an accent flawlessly both while speaking and singing. Abell does really well with both humorous moments as well as portraying his role as a loving father and husband.
To add to the impressive vocal performances, the cast is accompanied by a live pit that manages the blend of notes and various, random sounds that are required for such a unique story line.
Finally, one must note the outstanding set, which frequently has to change and does so flawlessly. The little details are obviously thought out and addressed with care.
As school plays and musicals go, Addams Family is not one to miss with shows at 7:00 pm on Friday and Saturday Night, as well as a 2:00 pm matinee on Saturday.
