A club founded and created by the students, for the students, seems chaotic to some, but it is quite the opposite. Co-founders Christian Fuicelli ‘25, Evan Moynihan ‘25, and Drew Smith ‘25 gave life to a new club to fulfill their passion. This group is now called the Freeride Club.
“The main focus of the club is to encourage members to try new things and ride hard on the slopes,” Fuicelli said.
When developing the club, the founders had one thing in mind: to have fun with their club members and friends who all share a similar interest.
“We wanted to bring together a community of people that like doing what we do when we ski and snowboard,” Fuicelli said.
To get the club started, they started by first recruiting their friends to meet with them to talk about their main goals for the ski season.
“We talk about filming, when we’ll go up to ski, and ride coordination,” Smith said.
“We also talk about sources of revenue that we could use to buy a camera and edit the film,” Moynihan said.
Their inspiration to create a film was inspired by a YouTube channel called Magma, which follows the lives of two professional skiers who document their experiences to produce ski movies.
“It’s a big thing in the ski community to post edits and upload videos,” Fuicelli said. “For example, Magma has a big film coming out soon, so we want to kind of follow in their footsteps and try to make something big as well.”
To get the clips they need to make the video, the club meets to plan which days they’ll go up to ski and figure out ride coordinations. So far this season, they’ve gone up to Eldora and Copper.
“We ride the terrain park, go off jumps, ride rails, ride hard, and try to have fun,” Fuicelli said.
Starting the club not only opened new windows to improving their skills, but it also allowed them to meet new people within the ski and snowboard community.
“We’re all becoming friends through the club, and I think that’s pretty dope,” Smith said.

Abbey Elalouf, Editor In Chief
After leaving her soccer cleats to rest junior year, Abbey Elalouf (12) found herself with a new dream—starting a girls flag football team.
“It was hard. We had a bunch of other girls who were interested in playing, but they told us that it wouldn’t ever happen,” Elalouf said.
However, she wouldn’t accept “no” for an answer. After many meetings and constant rejection, it happened, just in time for her senior season. Her dream had become a reality.
“Once everything got rolling, we were able to pick a coach and get straight into practice, and everything’s been going really well,” she said.
The flag football community is something Elalouf thought she could never find, and now that she has, she’s so glad she has fought for something she really wanted.
“I’m so happy I will finally have the true, fun high school sports experience I always hoped for,” she said.

“Freshman year, I realized how special the community was when we all thought that we could never write a good story,” Lehman said. “But by the deadline night, it would all come together, and we realized that we had created something really special”.
